Secretary of State to Visit Colombia

Secretary of State Colin L. Powell will visit Bogota, Colombia, December 3 and 4. He will meet with Colombian President Álvaro Uribe, Foreign Minister Carolina Barco, and other officials, reaffirming our commitment to help Colombia combat narco-terrorism, strengthen democratic institutions, protect human rights, foster economic development, and address Colombia’s humanitarian challenges. The visit will also enable Secretary Powell to review issues likely to arise during the month of December, while Colombia holds the Presidency of the United Nations Security Council. Secretary Powell will also meet with leaders of Colombian civil society, including key non-governmental organizations.
