After a big jump in March, the number of migrants that Border Patrol apprehended in April did not increase. In fact, April’s arrivals were pretty typical for the last several Aprils. Although when you take away protection-seeking kids and families, the remainder is much fewer than it was five years ago.
Remember this next time you hear a Trumper talk about invaders pouring across our out-of-control border. 2018 is on pace to hit about 363,000 apprehensions, which would be the fifth-lowest year since 1973. And most of those lower years saw fewer children and families. The phenomenon is now at manageable levels: only tweaks are required to improve further.
